Design Yard Fitness Center

Project Summary

Adopting a hybrid working approach created an opportunity to rethink how corporate real estate could deliver greater value. By reducing the square footage dedicated to individual workstations, space was reinvested in a full employee fitness center—shifting real estate from simply accommodating people to actively supporting their experience.

The gym provided convenient access to physical activity and wellbeing within the workday, but its impact extended beyond individual fitness. Employees began using the space together, creating informal opportunities for connection, shared routines, and community.

The result: less space dedicated to where people sit, and more space dedicated to experiences that support wellbeing, connection, and a stronger workplace community.

According to the CDC, an onsite gym is one way employers can encourage physical activity, resulting in:

  • Increased productivity

  • Increased moral

  • reduced absenteeism

  • lower healthcare cost

  • improved attraction + retention
